Young people are told that the good life includes graduating from high school, getting a degree and a good job, and making enough money so that you can live a healthy, comfortable, and safe life. Isn't that what Jesus promises us? Good things. A good life. Shouldn’t we expect it? And then one day, suffering, loss, and disappointment intrude into a young person's life. Their struggle seems insurmountable when compared to the bill of goods they’ve been sold. This cognitive dissonance – a theological brain freeze - could drive them toward God or away from him. It might make them bitter, or better.
